Before I get going, I have a confession to make. It was some months after I started working at CJ before I realised what you are actually are supposed to do with essential oil burners – or fragrance oil burners (same difference). However, I soon caught on – here’s what I discovered…
Essential Oils – How to use them with Oil Burners

Essential Oil Burner
Essential oils are the pure and natural oils that are extracted from the flowers, seeds and roots of plants. Generally speaking, essential oils are used in aromatherapy for well-being, relaxation and massage but they’re also used with oil burners to create high quality home fragrances.
The process is quite simple. You choose your favourite essential oil burner then do the following:
1. Place a small amount of essential oil, such as lavender or sandalwood – you choose, into the top of the oil burner then top up with water and mix.
2. Put a tea light candle under the essential oil at the bottom of the burner then light.
That’s it!
Once the candle is lit, it slowly warms the essential oil/water mixture which slowly evaporates into the air releasing the aroma of the oil.
Fragrance Oil Burners – What’s the Difference?

Fragrance Oil Burner
It really depends on what type of oil you’re going to use in the oil burner. Fragrance oil burners are used with… yes, you guessed it – fragrance oils.
Fragrances oils are generally synthetic, man-made, and contain little or no pure essential oils. They are usually of far lesser quality and the aroma isn’t of such high quality either.
So now we’ve managed to figure out that there are different names for what is really the same item. There are various names bouncing around for these oil burners, namely:
Essential oil burners, aromatherapy oil burners, fragrance oil burners and scented oil burners.
That’s not all, some folks refer to these oil burners as diffusers as well – just to make things even more confusing.
Use Essential Oil Burners with Care
Are word of warning… never leave a naked candle alight if you’re not in the room. Also, don’t let the scented oil/water mixture run dry in the top of the fragrance/essential oil burner because you could damage it. It will crack if it’s a ceramic oil burner.
Right – What are you waiting for? Go buy one of our super fangled essential oil burners today… and stop your house from smelling of nasty niffs.

I must admit that before I joined the Crafty Jungle online gifts store I never really considered buying any decorative candles. OK, so now it’s my job but I’ve since found out they’re a really popular and quick way to freshen up the look of your sitting room – without all the hassle and cost of buying new furniture or decorating.
Buying Decorative Candles – Scented or Unscented?

Classic Black Decorative Candle
As a general rule, if you’re looking to make a feature out of a fireplace, wall shelves, a dining table or window shelves then choosing the right colour becomes more important than scent.
For a sitting room makeover to really make an impact you’ll need a fair number of candles so choosing unscented decorative candles is probably a wise decision.
Unscented candles tend to be a lot cheaper than their scented cousins. High quality scented candles usually contain some elements of essential oils to give them a superior aroma but this pushes up the cost.
Decorative Candles – Choosing a Simple and Elegant Design

Modern Purple Decorative Candle
By keeping the design simple and focusing more on colour combinations, you can get some really stylish results with a simple unfussy decorative candle.
To give you some inspiration here some different colour combinations to consider with these colourful decorative and unscented candles.
You needn’t stop at a sitting room makeover with your preferred decorative candles. Simply place a few clustered together on a candle stand in your hallway or landing (where it’s safe from being knocked over) for a more dramatic effect.
Choosing Church Candles for a Decorative Effect

Decorative Church Candles
You needn’t go for some hing as bold as the above coloured candles because you really need some matching decor to make them work.
Church candles are simply ivory coloured and unscented but they work equally well as a modern look decorative candle.
Yes, church candles do get used… in church no less! – but I find they’re really popular for use in feature fireplaces and for grand centrepieces.
Finally if you intend to revitalise your dining table at meal times, always use unscented decorative candles so as not to spoil that wonderful aroma from your Michelin star chef recipe.
