The Easy Way to Choose Your Wine for Christmas Day Lunch
Posted November 19th, 2009 by AdrianThe holiday season is fast approaching and I hope you’ve already started to think about the perfect Christmas lunch. Fortunately, yours truly can provide the perfect candles and home fragrances to decorate the table, but what about the food wine?
I’ve always hated that saying ‘you eat with your eyes’, even some of the top chefs use it. Ok, presentation is important but when it comes to wine – does it mean that you drink with your nose. To help take away some of the Christmas day preparation headaches, I always start with the most important item on my very long to do list – WINE!

A personal favourite of mine is the star buy at just £4.99, the marvelous Chilean 2008 Errazuriz Estate Shiraz, available at Waitrose stores. I drink this Shiraz all year round – not just on special occasions (I’m a devil aren’t I). This would be my typical pre-lunch warm up wine, you know while you’re peeling the parsnips.
I promise I’m no alcoholic, but choosing some great champagne fizz for breakfast, followed by a glass or two of gorgeous red while cooking lunch, then a fairly chunky Shiraz to go with the actual meal, followed by a well rounded port to go with my Stilton, makes the big day all worthwhile.
Now you’ve got your wine sorted for Christmas day lunch… it’s time to start thinking about decorating your table ready for that amazing meal. I’m salivating already…
