You know that staying in is the new going out, mainly because we’re all stoney broke, but it’s real easy to put together a simple meal and make the setting truly romantic. And no you don’t need a special occasion because you’ll bowl over your partner with your spontaneity and thoughtfulness - when it’s not even his/her birthday. You know I’m right.

Here’s the cheats guide to a wonderful evening in with your loved one:

1. Buy one of Waitrose irresistible meals, dispose of all packaging, then pass it off as your own. Make sure you get a starter, main and desert for maximum effect - plus a decent bottle of wine.

2. Now you need to set the scene - and dinner candles will fit the bill nicely.  It’s all about making your partner feel special and creating the romance. Miss this step at your peril… having a great meal under florescent lighting just doesn’t cut it.

3. If you want to really push the boat out then a bouquet of flowers will seal the deal… and yes you’ll be a real hero.

All of the above is guaranteed to woo your partner and put you in their good books for at least a week
