Scented Oil Burners - Easy Ways to Fragrance Your Home

Black & White Oil Burner

Black & White Oil Burner

I must admit to not having any idea on how to use scented oil burners before joining the CJ team. Now though, I use them as an affordable way to create some really amazing fragrances throughout my home and create just the right atmosphere for any room. I find that using pure essential oils with the burners produces a much higher quality fragrance than simple room sprays.

What are Scented Oil Burners?

I know, it’s pretty obvious to some, but I still get questions on the Crafty Jungle website asking how to use scented oil burners so here’s a brief explanation…

Firstly, the scented oil burner is also known as a fragrance oil burner, or an essential / aromatherapy oil burner, usually just depending on the choice of oil being used.

As the name suggests, the oil burners are for use with any type of scented oils to produce a beautiful fragrance when it is warmed. You can use traditional, and cheaper, fragrance oils or a higher quality selection of essential oils. Fragrance oils usually consist of totally synthetic materials, to keep the cost down, and essential oils usually consist of pure natural extracts from the plant, flower or grass from which it is derived. Essential oils are often used with ‘aromatherapy’ oil burners because of their natural qualities and the general positive effects they can give you.

There is a noticeable difference in the quality of perfume between fragrance and essential oils, but either can produce some really ‘heady’ aromas.

To use the oil burner, which is usually made from a ceramic material, you simply place a tea light candle at the bottom of the burner. You then pour your favourite scented oil (can be used ‘neat’ or more often blended with water or other aromatic oils) into the top of the burner to create a gentle or stronger fragrance as required. You simply light the candle and the fragrance then gradually evaporates and spreads around your room.

There are so many fragrances to choose from you’ll find yourself experimenting with different blends (mixtures of different fragrances) to achieve some really exotic aromas. A few drops of essential oil will normally last you a good hour when used with an essential oil burner.

Choosing the right scented oil burners can enhance the look of your room as well as creating a satisfying perfume.
