Posted September 3rd, 2009 by AdrianWe can all suffer from a bad night’s sleep every now and then, but let it continue for too long and it can really affect your overall health. Not enough sleep can cause your skin to lose its shine and vibrancy, you develop bags under your eyes, you feel tired during the day and you have no energy… You feel plain awful!
Now, if you’re looking for a simple alternative way to get relaxed, create perfect calm in your room and help you with a better night’s sleep, I may just have the answer for you.
Essential Oils to Aid Restful Sleep
Essential oils are a natural choice for creating some truly amazing scents for any room in your home. If you decide to use 100% pure essential oils, you can turn your bedroom into a place of perfect calm – allowing you to discover a whole new world where you can start enjoying their relaxing properties.
These naturally scented oils come in hundreds of different fragrances and have many positive properties you can use to your ultimate benefit… Achieving a great night’s sleep. Here is a selection of essential oils that are said to influence relaxation:
Chamomile, Clary sage, Cedarwood, Cypress, Juniper, Lavender, Marjoram, Myrrh, Neroli, Rose otto, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Yland Ylang.
Most of the above mentioned oils are inexpensive but some, such as Neroli and Rose otto, are highly sought after and have an eye-watering retail price as the oils are difficult to extract from some plants. You will have most likely heard of many of these aromatic oils so be prepared to experiment to achieve the perfect blend (a blend is a mixture of two or more essential oils) to help you sleep.
Essential Oils for Perfuming Your Room and Getting an Amazing Night’s Sleep
You can use many combinations and blends of oils for massage, use in the bath or as a room perfume. Here’s a simple way to create the perfect fragrance that can create calm in your bedroom when rest and relaxation is the order of the day. You can use this easy blend over and over again when you need a little help sleeping or resting.
What you will need -
Lavender essential oil, juniper essential oil and sandalwood essential oil, essential oil burner, 50 ml of distilled water, unscented tea light candle .
The basic method -
#1 – Put 4 drops of lavender oil, 6 drops of sandalwood and 2 drops of juniper into the distilled water.
#2 – Place the essential oil blend into a dark bottle (50 ml) and shake vigorously.
#3 – Fill the top of your essential oil burner with some of your perfumed water ensuring that you have enough liquid so that it does not burn dry. If you let the essential oil burner liquid totally evaporate then the burner will crack.
#4 – Place a tea light under the burner, light and then allow the fragrance to spread around the room.
Before you settle down for sleep, remove the essential oils and burner from the room and then extinguish the tea light candle. You will find that the fragrance will continue to linger long after you’ve started relaxing and started to drift off, totally at rest, dreaming of that what makes you happy most.
Want to take it to the next level? I find it also helps to add a little ambient music, set on a timer, to accompany your perfectly created essential oil blend.
